Dating Safety Notice
Updated September 28, 2026
Menu can help you coordinate a first date. It cannot remove the risk of meeting someone new. Trust your judgment and put your safety ahead of politeness, a match, or a reservation.
New York safety awareness notice
- There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you.
- Never include your last name, email address, home address, phone number, workplace, or other identifying information in your dating profile or initial messages. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information or tries to trick you into revealing it.
- If you meet face-to-face, tell a family member or friend where you are going and when you expect to return. Never agree to be picked up at your home. Arrange your own transportation and meet in a public place with many people around.
Before the date
- Keep early conversations on Menu so safety signals and reports can be investigated.
- Look for inconsistent details, pressure to move off-platform, requests for secrecy, or refusal to video chat.
- Tell someone the person’s profile name, restaurant, reservation time, and when you will check in.
- Use your own transportation both ways. Keep your phone charged and maintain control of your belongings.
Date requests, bookings and verification
Accepting a date request confirms a reservation on the sender’s booking account. Check the booking details in Menu before travelling. If the booking status is pending or unclear, contact Support before making another request. Review the restaurant’s cancellation, deposit and no-show policies before confirming.
Only enter a reservation verification code in the Menu or provider flow you initiated. Never send a code, password or card details to your date, to someone claiming to be Menu staff in a message, or by support email. If a payment step appears unexpectedly, stop and contact Support.
You can decline or leave a date at any time. Blocking, unmatching or deleting a chat does not necessarily cancel an existing reservation or remove a calendar entry. Check the reservation separately and contact the restaurant or provider if necessary. Put immediate safety first.
At the restaurant
- Meet inside a busy public restaurant. Do not change to a private location because of pressure.
- Watch your food and drinks. Know your limits and do not rely on your date for transportation.
- Consent must be freely given and can be withdrawn at any time. A match, meal, reservation, or payment never creates an obligation.
- Leave immediately if you feel unsafe. Ask restaurant staff for help and contact emergency services when needed.
Money and romance scams
Never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, banking details, verification codes, or financial-account access to someone you have not met and independently verified. Be skeptical of emergencies, investment opportunities, military or travel stories, and requests to receive or move money. You can reverse-image-search profile photos and stop contact when details do not add up.
Report and block
Use Menu’s report or block controls when available, or email meet@reserved.menu. Include the profile name, approximate date, what happened, and relevant screenshots. Do not send intimate images or government identification by email. We do not display the identity of a reporter to the reported member as part of the report flow. A person may nevertheless infer who reported or blocked them. We may use and disclose information when necessary to investigate a report, protect safety or comply with law. Menu Support is not an emergency service; do not wait for a response if you are in danger.
Get immediate help
- Immediate danger: call 911 or local emergency services.
- Romance or financial fraud: report it to the Federal Trade Commission and your payment provider.
- Sexual assault support in the U.S.: call RAINN at 800-656-HOPE (4673) or visit hotline.rainn.org.
- New York domestic and sexual violence hotline: call 800-942-6906, text 844-997-2121, or visit New York OPDV.
Privacy when planning a date
Use an approximate neighborhood rather than a home address in your profile. A public social handle may reveal additional information about you. Calendar entries and notification previews can be visible to people with access to your device or shared calendar; review those settings before adding sensitive details. Menu is for adults 18 and older. Report suspected minors, impersonation, harassment, coercion or threats through the app or Support.
Identity and background checks
An Instagram badge indicates the account-control check described in the app; a photo check concerns the submitted photo. Neither establishes legal identity, age, background, character or safety. A recent-activity indicator is not a person’s live location or proof that they are available to meet. Unless Menu expressly states otherwise for a particular feature, Menu does not conduct comprehensive criminal background checks on every member.
